There are various ways of running Windows on a Mac but we strongly recommend using Parallels to install MT4. The only way to download and install the native Windows version of MT4 or MT5 on a Mac is to first install Windows on your Mac and then install the Windows version of MetaTrader. There are however better ways to run MT4 on a Mac and here we show you the best ways to get MT4 on a Mac that work on Big Sur, Catalina and M1 Macs. If you’ve already upgraded to Big Sur, Catalina or using an M1 Mac then you’ll need this version of MT4 which uses the Crossover emulator to install the Windows version of MT4 on a Mac. This is because the emulated PlayOnMac version of MT4 does not support 64 bit operating systems like Big Sur and Catalina or the M1 ARM chip.
The PlayOnMac version of MT4 also does not work on macOS Catalina, Big Sur or M1 Macs. However, we strongly do not recommend this method because the installation process is long and complicated. If you’re running macOS Mojave or earlier you’ll need to install the PlayOnMac emulator to install the Windows version of MT4 on a Mac. Install MT4 on Mac via a Broker (Mojave and earlier)Ī fully native version of MT4 for Mac is not available but you can install it on a Mac thanks to emulation software.
